On Thursday evening at the Westin, The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of Calgary recognized leaders in commercial real estate at the TransCanada BOMA Excellence Awards.
Hosted by Amber Schinkel and Jayme Doll of Global TV, the Awards recognized individual achievements as well as the teams that are responsible for high performing buildings in Calgary no matter the size, age, or occupancy type.
“The TransCanada BOMA Excellence Awards are a fantastic opportunity to recognize the impressive achievements of commercial real estate professionals in Calgary and southern Alberta,” said Lloyd Suchet, Executive Director of BOMA Calgary, “each award recipient has truly demonstrated excellence in their category, and has served to raise the standards of our industry.”
The award recipients were as follows:
The Malcolm Bryce Award pays homage to the spirit of volunteerism, and acknowledges the contributions of BOMA Calgary’s volunteers. This year’s recipient was Tanya Marsh, Cadillac Fairview.
The Property Management Team of the Year award recognizes the people who make a difference every day and go above and beyond to ensure their tenants and the public have access to well-maintained spaces. The winner was Bow Valley Square, Oxford Properties Group;
Building Operator of the Year award celebrates the success of individual building operators, and recognizes how their contributions support their company’s accomplishments. The recipient was Matthew Topolovich, Aspen Property Management;
The Building Operations Team of the Year award acknowledges that it takes a team of dedicated operators to effectively run a building, and looks at all aspects of operations including tenant services, emergency preparedness, workplace safety, energy and waste management. The recipient was Keynote One Office Tower, Triovest Realty Advisors;
 The Pinnacle Award for Innovation allows BOMA Calgary to recognize the innovative offerings of the service and supply side of the industry. This year’s recipient was ENMAX Energy for their District Energy Centre.
 The Earth Award is perhaps the most rigorous of the Awards Standards, and recognizes buildings that excel in environmentally sound management and resource preservation, and includes occupation health and safety criteria. This winner was 639 5 Ave SW, Equium Group.
The Outstanding Building of the Year (TOBY) Awards looks at all facets of a building’s operation, and recognizes quality in commercial real estate buildings while rewarding excellence in building management. The category winners were:
TOBY Medical Building –  East Calgary Health Centre, Bentall Kennedy (Canada) LP;
TOBY  Historical Building – Lougheed House, Alberta Infrastructure;
 TOBY  Retail Building –  Westhills Towne Centre, Triovest Realty Advisors Inc.;
 TOBY Industrial Building – Foothills VII, Triovest Realty Advisors Inc.;
 TOBY Under 100,000sq/ft –   Quarry Park Professional,  Artis REIT;
 TOBY  100,000 – 249, 999 sq/ft – Plaza 1000, Triovest Realty Advisors Inc.;
 TOBY 250,000 – 499,999 sq/ft  – Intact Place, Bentall Kennedy (Canada) LP;
 TOBY Over 1 Million sq/ft –  Eighth Ave Place,  Hines Canada Management.
